After sleep, career is where the majority of our life is spent. It is a big commitment and an even bigger decision to get right if you don’t want to spend a third of your total life’s duration doing something you regret. And unfortunately for us, we are expected to make the choice after 13 years of schooling where most of us did only two weeks of “work experience” and are still trying to figure out who we are and what we like. 🤣
How can I know the best career for me?
Should I pursue my passions or go after the jobs with the highest pay?
Should I look for work-life balance or will all jobs need me to grind?
Can I make an impact on the ummah through my career or is that mostly just a fairy tale?
To answer your questions and more, MYA is holding our annual Muslim Youth Careers Expo (MYCE) where we are bringing in local Muslim professionals from every field and industry. Not only will we have career stalls, a much-needed workshop and student debate, but also be giving away a free iPad to a lucky member of the audience!

Between Passion, Reality & the Ummah: How Can I Choose My Career? with Dr Tanvir Uddin
It is no secret that getting our careers right can be a daunting task for most (especially if you’ve done 13 years of sheltered schooling and only one to two weeks of “work experience”). The list of considerations literally has no end. Passion or pay? Stability or entrepreneurship? Meaning or societal expectations? Halal environment or doesn’t exist? Help the ummah or just not realistic? …
If you are about to finish high school and don’t have any answers, don’t worry, most people in university are still trying to figure it out too. It’s not an easy decision to make. However, if you are looking for a head start, then do yourself a favour and attend our workshop.
