In partnership with Wholesum, MYA is holding an introductory workshop to increase literacy levels on all things Islamic Finance. Our local financial experts, Dr Tanvir Uddin (Wholesum Founder, PhD in Islamic Finance) and Sh Abu Hakeem Yusuf Tang (ICFAL Shariah Advisor), will cover 6 topics ranging from Halal Investing to Zakat to equip with you with the tools to take control of your finances for this world and the hereafter.

Dr Tanvir Uddin
Founder & CEO, Invest Wholesum, PhD in Islamic Microfinance, serial sustainability entrepreneur and responsible investment specialist
As a serial entrepreneur, Tanvir loves innovating at the intersection of access to financial services, technology and sustainability. He is the Founder of Wholesum, a platform to increase access to unique positive impact-focused, halal investments. Tanvir additionally tutors in social entrepreneurship at the Centre for Social Impact, University of New South Wales. Previously, Tanvir co-founded Vyro, a sustainable mobility platform that uses technology to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles. Previously, he was Commercial Manager at Brighte, Australia’s leading green consumer financier and a management consultant at McKinsey.
Tanvir holds a PhD from the University of Sydney. His thesis examined the intersection of Islamic law and sustainable development through microfinance programs. He graduated with double First-Class Honours degrees in Bachelor of Arts and Laws from the University of New South Wales where he was a Scientia Scholar. From a fellowship from the Islamic Development Bank, Tanvir obtained a Master of Islamic Finance from IE Business School. He has published research on Islamic finance and fintech in a number of prominent journals and academic books.
Sh Abu Hakeem Yusuf Tang
As the General Manager of ICFAL, Shaykh Yusuf Tang leads a team within a dynamic intersection of community, business and Shariah law, serving a cooperative of over 5,000 members. He navigates the complexities of community leadership and Islamic finance while ensuring effective organisational management and sustainable expansion.
Shaykh Yusuf Tang leverages his dual expertise as the resident Shariah Board Member that further empowers him to lead ICFAL’s initiatives in introducing financial products and strategies that adhere to Shariah principles, all the while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance within Australia’s financial landscape.
Holding an MBA and a Masters in Islamic Law with a specialized focus on Islamic finance contracts, his diverse background encompasses key roles in finance, sales, and marketing at globally recognized corporations.
